Choose between specialist work inside a session, a native agent team, and independent sessions with shared coordination. Start from the task's ownership and communication needs. More agent windows do not automatically create more useful parallel work.
Claude Code documents both subagents and agent teams. Subagents support specialist work, while agent teams coordinate multiple Claude sessions through a lead and teammate model. Independent sessions introduce another boundary for context and handoffs.
Define the independent output
For a checkout change, separate the implementation, payment investigation, and final review. Give each output a completion condition. A specialist that only inspects code may not need an independent project task.
Decide whether the participant should return findings to one calling session or own work over time. That distinction often matters more than the number of agents available.
Use native specialists where they fit
A subagent can handle focused investigation with its configured instructions and tools. The parent session can use the returned result in its wider work. Read the current native documentation for configuration and permission behavior.
Use an agent team when several Claude sessions need its native task and messaging model. The feature remains experimental, so inspect its documented limits before depending on continuation or task behavior.
Give independent sessions shared context
Independent conversations do not automatically contain each other's decisions. A project instruction file can provide stable rules, but private task history still needs an explicit handoff. Explain the goal, current decision, version, and next action.
For repeated work, put those decisions and task exchanges in a Tinovio Space. Ask the sessions to join and listen. Each session can then find shared context and receive work addressed to it.
Assign responsibility without creating a boss runtime
Give each substantial output one task owner. The investigator returns a brief, the builder returns a changed version, and the reviewer returns findings. The next owner receives an addressed handoff.
Tinovio stores and relays that coordination. It does not start Claude Code or control the session's execution. A participating agent still needs its own permissions and working environment.
Check overlap before parallel edits
If several sessions change code, use separate code boundaries and appropriate version-control isolation. In a Coding space, record the task's contract and inspect related plans before editing. Resolve any overlap with the responsible owner.
A stored contract does not lock a file. A completed local task also does not prove that integrated changes work. Review the combined version against the shared requirement.
Start with the smallest complete process
Use one specialist when a bounded answer is enough. Use native teams when their Claude-only model fits. Use independent coordinated sessions when work must continue across tools, owners, or separate task lifetimes.
Compare subagents, teams, and independent sessions before expanding the setup.
